You've been natural for a while. And you've barely seen any growth.
You see other naturals on YouTube and Instagram (and even in real life) with thick, long, growing natural hair, and you might be wondering:
What's wrong with my hair?
Don't worry - we've all been there. Curl envy is very real.
But there's nothing wrong with your hair. You just haven't found the right tips and tricks to help you retain length (because ALL hair grows, it just depends on if you're actually retaining the length).
Take a look at the below table. Does this sound like you?
If you can agree with at least one of the above "problems", you've come to the right place.
The Curl Market, founded by a scientist/long-term natural, is a resource that provides science-based tips on how exactly to grow and maintain natural hair.
No fuss, no BS.
We recognize that every coil is different. No two curl is the same.
But the science doesn't lie. And dermatologists and hair experts alike have concluded that all natural hair can grow and thrive.
Whether you're a Type 2 natural dealing with heat damage, a Type 3 natural experience shedding, or a Type 4 natural experiencing breakage, our objective is to equip you with the right tricks, tips and tools to:
- understand your "hair facts" beyond your hair type (so knowing your density, thickness, and porosity);
- build the foundational knowledge of what YOUR natural hair needs, based on your hair facts;
- teach you how to know which products you should buy, and;
- provide both product recommendations and routine suggestions to meet your hair needs.
Throw away all your preconceived notion of black hair. Let's grow together.
Meet the Founder!
Ayana Aden is the brand founder of The Curl Market, a science-based blog which provides actionable tips on how to grow and maintain natural hair.
I also thought my natural hair couldn’t grow.
After sustaining horrible heat damage in 2011, I did the dreaded big chop, cutting my hair from waist length to shoulder length.
And it was stuck there, for years.
No matter what I did, what products I used, how many times I deep conditioned and drank my water (ugh!), nothing seemed to work.
I realized that fundamentally, natural hair (and beauty in general) is a science. And if I wanted to grow mine, I had to learn it.
So I rolled up my sleeves, went into peer-reviewed journal articles and studies and created a new routine, 100% based on the latest science.
And guess what: my natural hair started to grow. FAST.
If you’re struggling with your natural hair, if you’re dealing with breakage, shedding, dead ends, a dry scalp, all the things that are stopping you from achieving your ideal length: I’ve been there.
And I know how to get out.
That’s why I started The Curl Market, a no-BS one-stop shop where I can summarize all the boring science stuff I learned (written in a non-boring way) so that you can grow your hair, too.
I don’t care what hair type you are, or porosity, or hair width. All hair grows, and that’s the same for beautiful Afrocentric hair!
So let’s grow together.
